Turning props in or out?

What RPM's are you turning?

Is this the teal boat that was in Canada?

I have the Drives trimmed to 7-9 (conditions depending) and the tabs 3-5 (conditions again) on the mechanical indicators, so they're is barely any hull in the water and only enough tab to stabilize the "pad walk" (as I call it). If your running 94 mph with HP 500's really curious as to what I'm doing wrong.

Hull is a Regal Velocity 30', built in 1989.

Might need to email Steve Stepp it seems.

Yes the Teal Boat in Canada, bought it last year

The little small blocks pull 500ft/lbs from 2500-4900 RPM and peak 540 ft/lbs at 3800 and don't drop below 500 ft/lbs until 5100 RPM. Peak HP is 542 at 5500 RPM. I first thought I over propped the boat myself but it pulls way to hard and comes out of the hole way to easily to be over propped.

Props are turning in and RPM is about 4800-4850. I'll get a chance to get back to the boat and off of Base in Two Weeks.

82 MPH is the best I've managed to run at 4850 which I believe worked out to 11% slip. I have never pushed the drive trim past the mechanical indicators, but I will give that a go. I have not come close to blowing out the props at this speed, and I know the motors will pull harder.

I've pulled labbed 30 pitch Maximum Props to 5100 RPM and though they were much smoother and stay hooked up better in turns, they were not any faster even with the extra RPM's. Felt like a little too much stern lift and really made the boat wander on the pad and I had to drop the tabs much more then with the 4 blade Bravo's to keep it under control.

Now that I'm sitting here thinking, I'm wondering if the flat torque curve of the small blocks won't let me pull the RPM I should as it's pretty much level the entire curve rather then climbing, or if the lighter weight of the small blocks isn't letting me trim enough of the boat onto the pad.

More drive time needed haha.

I'd think with the lighter weight the boat would have more natural lift and be more likely to get up on the pad with less trim.

Have you tried spinning out rather than in? Mine seems to settle in better spinning out, and I can keep the tabs around 3 with no porpoise.

Might be worth trying a set of 28's, just to see if you can get the RPM's outta those small blocks.

Have you checked your indicators to make sure they're accurate... actual trim matches what the indicators are reading? Also, the toe on the drives?

Indicators are bang on, I just re did all the cables and re adjusted everything this year.

The TOE of the drives I have not touched. It was set up by the previous owner and his marine mechanic, name is not coming to me at this point when they put in Imco External steering, it previously ran a best of 92 mph.

I am looking for a set of 28 pitch props to borrow, but there is only about 3 boats on my river running Bravo's.

Nice 30 brother 80 MPH is good but to get the full Sh!ts 95-100 MPH will put it in the swim trunks.
I have learned instead of changing props just buy the biggest size then add Horse Power to get the speed you are looking for.

I have a 32' Advantage Victory going together hopefully this winter if things work out with 556ci big blocks. It should dance to 100 mph.

The Regal was a boat to replace my fathers Chris Craft, as a gift to me for graduating college. The 427's were pulled from the Chris Craft, rushed in for a Poker Run and then pulled again after for a refreshening this winter to make sure they were ready to go for me.

At his passing this year I've taken over both boats and want to complete the Victory in his honor, just lacking the knowledge tremendously that he had.

So I'm trying to figure out the Regal completely with out putting anymore moeny into it. I'm happy with the boat and love how flat it flies when I get running at 81 mph.

Just trying to squeeze the last bit from it as cheaply as possible.

Also try to find a pair of 26" Hydro Q4's. They are roughly the same pitch as 28" Bravo's and typically add a 1-2 MPH on a twin and will spin your engines a little faster. The factory equipped the 32's with Hydro Q4's. Best of luck with your project.

26 pitch hydro's eh. Hmm I was told they were roughly the same size but the hydro's were just faster on the top end and worst everywhere else, good knowledge, thank you.

I will keep my eyes peeled.
