280 w/ 496 Mag HO, How fast(gps)
I'm looking a 2002 280 with the windsheild and the 496Mag HO. Owner says low 70's on GPS. Anyone got one of these or one with a 502 Mag Mpi I can compare it to. My old 26 T-bred ran 66 GPS with a 454 Mag and mid 70's with a super tuned 509.

71 MPH taking into consideration you know how to drive one. Propeller plays a role here. You can actually feel real world, in a boat, that the 425 is stronger than the 415.

Voodoo,
I have a 1999 Velocity 280 with a 502 Mag MPI and on my speedo with a clean bottom I was getting 73-74 if it is trimmed way out but it gets a bit loose in rough water. I recently added inline mufflers and lost a couple MPH but the speedo is probably a bit high compared to a GPS but I don't have any GPS numbers. This is with a Hydromotive 25 pitch labbed prop at about 4600 RPM.

Real world...but let's put it this way, on the right water for max speed potential in that boat (had one also, actually me and my buds have had six, two 22's, two 26' (280 ) and two 32's) your not gonna run enough trim with your 4 yr old and wife on board in 2'+ chop to see 70+ (GPS) every day.

NYvelocity you need to get that propped labbed to get the RPM back up.
Rippem, I'm beginning to wonder if I ever had my old boat trimmed up high enough! No, I don't drive like an ass with my kid in the boat but I've got to keep all those Baja's in my area at bay. Most of those guys are running mid 60's with the 25 Outlaw and 67-68 (max with light load) on the new 275 with a 496 Mag HO. Sounds the HO is a good engine for the 280.

2002 280 w/496 ho
Spinning a labbed bravo 1 26" @ 5100+ I see 73-74 mph (GPS) loaded with a full tank and three guys ( 215+ lbs). Spinning a labbed bravo 1 28" @ 47-4800 I see 75-76 mph (gps) running lighter and only my wife. You will notice trimming up will get you that extra mph. I was told that about a one to two foot rooster tail should give you the best mph. Running with the kids we like the 28" just due too the better cruise speed. The 496 HO is a great motor for the 280.
