Default Top speed for Velocity 320 w/single ?

thinking about upgrading my 280 to a 320 but want to keep with a single engine. Anyone know what a 320 would run with eitherr a 525 or a 575sc ?? Fountain 29 Fevers go about 80 with a 525 and a 320 velocity is about 100 lbs less with a single so I am assuming relatively the same top end.

A 320 with a single will probably run better than you might think it would with the pad bottom design in comparison to what a single engine Fountain,my 320 with a pair of 525sc Mercurys with super chillers will run an easy 100.There is a guy that has a 320 with a big blower motor in it that claims 95 to 97 mph.Great boats and good luck with your decision.

Holy Smokes ! You had/have a 320 with twin 575's... yikes. That had to be a scary ride over 100 and I can't imagine the cost of 2 of those engines. I'm trying to get the biggest boat that will still get me over 80mph with a single engine and possibly 90ish with a blower or blower modifications. I think and am hoping that a 320 with a 575 would do low 80's and then add a superchiller and a smaller pulley and get high 90's - that would be perfect and still have the lower maintenance and better fuel economy of a single engine.

I have yet to see or get into a 320, can you tell me how much more room is in them compared to a 280. I am hoping for about another foot in the cockpit and some extra room in the cabin but the cockpit area would be most important. I am also wondering how much better the 320 handles heavy chop and side to side waves. My 280 gets scary running 70ish and going through side to side boat wakes or waves.

Thanks,

I'd suggest calling the factory regarding how much single engine HP would be required to get a 320 into the 80's and then 90's. I think you'll find that twins will get you there certainly more reliably (on going maint.)and possibly cheaper then the required BIG HP single. Factor in outdrive reliability, docking a 320 with twins vs a single engine and the ability to limp home on one engine - the decision gets easier. The 320 can handle 70 MPH in snotty Poker Run conditions just fine.

Guys,

Thanks for the great responses. I guess twins would make more sense to me as well after reading your comments and doing some more searching on the board. I'm actually now considering a DAytona Eliminator 27 or 28' CAT if I can afford the insurance. Otherwise I will go with the Velocity 320 or maybe a Warlock 29'.

Concerning my 280 handling over the rough stuff, I think part of the problem I have over 65mph is that I do not have trim tabs to help stablize the boat and also do not have external stearing so the boat is hard to control at 70mph and going through side waves. I can feel the boat getting pushed left or right and the steering response at that speed gets uncomfortably loose. My assumption is that 70mph is about the limit for a boat without external steering and tabs ?? When I back down the speed a bit to say 60ish, control of the boat is far better and I can go through some pretty crazy waves. Any other opinions are more than welcome - thanks !

If that 320 has one of Bruce's motors in it, but it. You'll never have a problem. He builds some really strong reliable motors. You won't go wrong with that boat!!!!

Engine reliability was probably the least of my concerns as I can reuibld the engine myself. I think that I am just leaning more towards a twin engine setup or a CAT. I would also prefer to buy a newer boat not older than my current 99. It isn't gonna happen until next year anyhow, I'm just trying to get it straight in my mind what I want and will be happy with for a while.

Thanks,
