The 290 SC is one of the nicest single engine boats that Velocity has made, especially if you need a taller cabin for the family or mrs. I had the pleasure of testing the 290 that was in the show up north. It ran out between 83 to 84 mph on the gps with 1/2 tank of fuel and 3 people. It was awesome.
This boat was loaded. It now has 12 volt ac in the cabin which added a couple of hundred pounds counting the batteries, but it should not fall off but a mph.
It is a big single engine cruiser. If I was to go back down to a single engine, this would be the boat.

As for the 390, I loved mine, but decided to go to the 410 for the taller cabin. Great boats regardless of size.

Hay Thurl hope you get to rumble around in a new 290 SC. They are great boats. Plenty of room in the cockpit and also the cabin. I may just keep mine right now, it seems to suit us very well. Also check out the May and June issue of Family and Performance Mag. my 290 SC will be in both issues, I have written articles for each issue one on Eddie Marine Exhaust and another about FloScan instruments. Anyhow like I said I will keep the 290 for a while. You know with gas a $2.00 a gallon it is much easier to feed 8 little injectors than 16 for a dual engine boat. If you get a chance give me an e-mail. John
