SSM #3 Upper gear set (1.33 ratio)
I need an upper gear set for a speed master #3 drive. 1.33 ratio. They make this set in two configurations. A 24/18 tooth set and a 20/15 set. I need the 20/15 tooth set because it handles more hp.

Do you know which gear set you have in the upper? The 24/18 or the 20/15 teeth set. You can pull the rear cap and count the teeth if your not sure. I'm very interested if its the 20/15 set.

#3 upper gear set
Jeff, I have new straight cut net forged upper gears for the #3 drive. This is the same gear that is used in the #3A and #5 drives with the driven gear "shank" forged to use the bearings and verticle shaft of the #3 drive. It is approx. 30% stronger than the original gear, the only issue is that mine are a 1.31:1 ratio.
Call me if you need further information. The tooth count on my 1.31:1 is 21/16 giving an overall ratio of 1.3125:1.
Footnote. I just spoke with a friend that has been doing drives for 30+ years for one of the premier offshore shops in Fla. and he informs me that when Mercury switched from the spiral cut upper gears in the SSM drives (#3,#3A, #4 and #5) to the straight cut forged gears, the strength was increased by 50% if not 100%, (his words)
